Statement of Purpose

The University of San Diego Master of Science program in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership develops vital skills necessary for the 21st Century police executive. The program has enhanced my capability in communication, community engagement, leadership, conflict resolution, budgeting, and organizational theory. To be an effective leader in law enforcement, one must be adept at leadership and supervisory methods. Consequently, I have increased my competency in these skills, which will allow me to effectively manage, motivate, and lead police officers in a complicated mission. Currently, police agencies are increasingly asked to take on more responsibilities in service to their communities. Therefore, effective communication is a necessary and requisite capability for police managers to rapidly and coherently deliver comprehensive answers to high-profile events. This program increased my skill and competence in communication and will allow me to effectively deliver a message that clarifies my department’s position and addresses the concerns of the community.

Law enforcement leaders today are faced with changing demographics, diversity, and generational differences in the workplace.  Therefore, organizational theory and conflict resolution techniques are imperative for managers. The skilled supervisor conversant in these techniques will inspire, inform, motivate, and lead the future executives of tomorrow. The world is an ever-changing place; accordingly, to lead a modern workforce, an advanced education is necessary to be successful. The University of San Diego Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership Master’s program does just that; by addressing America’s most challenging problems.

The Capstone Project for the Master of Science in Law Enforcement & Public Safety Leadership is an ePortfolio of my assignments that outlines the educational development that I acquired during the degree program. The work profiled here is an online collection of my assignments that are a partial representation of my exemplary work. I believe this ePortfolio is an appropriate method to highlight my educational achievements and successes in contrast to a paper resume. Please review the submitted projects herein which I believe are illustrative of the quality instruction that I received at the University of San Diego.
